The average age range at Gladhaven Club is between 60 and 90 years old. Some residents have part-time jobs or volunteer at local organizations. Many residents visit the local senior centers, libraries or museums on a daily basis. You can find most of our residents in our communal areas reading, watching television, sitting outside on our beautiful front lawn or taking a stroll in our quiet neighborhood.
What places are nearby for independent living residents to enjoy?
There are two lovely senior centers located a mere 10 minutes away from Gladhaven, both in Greenwich, CT and Rye, Brook NY. The Metro-North train station is two miles down the road as well. Across the street, Blind Brook school has a walking track, and along king street, there are well-kept sidewalks for daily fresh air and exercise. Several local public libraries are very close to the residence. Ten minutes away located in Greenwich and Port Chester there are shopping centers, movie theaters and waterfronts.
What are some recent off-site events that the community activity director at Gladhaven Club has organized?
Gladhaven Club hosts several annual parties for residents and their family and friends. On the 4th of July, residents gather together in our side yard and patio for a scrumptious barbecue. Classic hamburgers and hot dogs are served while listening to great American music to celebrate the holiday. Gladhaven is known for our extensive and creative Halloween decorations. Trick or treaters always make sure to stop by to check out the amazing decor. On Halloween night Gladhaven workers dress up and a party is held for our residents filled with candy, cookies, pigs in a blanket and other delicious hors d'oeuvres. During the holidays, we host a wonderful holiday party filled with friends and family. A beautiful Christmas tree, lights and decorations are scattered around the victorian house. That night, residents open presents from under the tree provided by the owner, Susan Roche. In addition, a pianist plays holiday songs and residents gather for sing-alongs.
What transportation services does Gladhaven Club offer to independent living residents?
There are several ride services that residents access on a daily basis. 'Call a Ride' based in Connecticut, 'Redcross' based in Connecticut, 'Paratransit' based in Westchester, and Gladhaven personal transit can be available as well dependent upon schedule (owner uses personal car to drive residents to doctor's appointments, short trips to town, drop off to train station etc). If residents own a car we have a large driveway and parking availability.
What makes the chef or dining program at Gladhaven Club exceptional? What kind of menu can independent living residents expect?
Gladhaven Club's dining program is like no other, in that all of our meals are prepared daily and fresh in house. Three meals are provided for residents served family-style at 8am, 12pm and 5pm. Nothing beats nutritious home-cooked meals to warm the soul.
What common areas are available for independent living residents?
Gladhaven has a marvelous recreation room on the first floor that includes cable television, a full-size pool table and a computer with internet access. Our lobby located adjacent to the dining room has comfortable chairs where residents can read, listen to the radio, and relax. Gladhaven's front porch, lawn, side yard and patio include chairs for residents to enjoy the beautiful flowers and freshly cut grass.

Gladhaven, on the Westchester-Connecticut border, is a small senior independent living residence that provides personal care for those who need a “just a little more”. This family-run senior home is a Victorian mansion with authentic Victorian furnishings throughout which have been collected by the owner, Susan Roche.
There are marble fireplaces (closed) in 5 of the rooms and ten-foot ceilings with plaster moldings. The large windows overlooking the garden give the rooms wonderful light and an airy comfort that all the residents appreciate.
It is located on the New York - Connecticut border in the King Street area of the town of Rye Brooke New York, and Greenwich, Connecticut. The small size allows the staff to cater to individual needs on a personal basis and provide all the comforts of home.
Rooms are all private and comfortably furnished or residents may use their own furniture. All rooms face outside. They are large, attractive and available for single occupancy. Suites are offered, and couples are encouraged to enjoy the saving afforded by sharing a room.
Several Active Senior Clubs are in nearby towns. Guests must be in reasonably good health and ambulatory upon arrival. Thereafter every effort is made to allow the guest to remain in residence, despite changing physical conditions.
The skilled, dedicated staff at Gladhaven provides numerous services to make sure residents are comfortable, happy and safe while providing the added personal touch that makes Gladhaven a truly family-type home for residents. - Parking permits are available only to Town/Village of Harrison residents. There is a waitlist of approximately 2 years for the parking permit.
- There are daily parking spaces available. If you are parking on the southbound side, you will have to go to the Clerk’s office and purchase a daily pass for $3.00. Only residents can purchase daily passes. If you are parking on the northbound side there is meter parking available at $4.75 for 16 hours or $7.50 for 24 hours.

- The Port Chester Metro North station has daily metered parking at the covered lot at The Waterfront at Port Chester which is a great choice for non-residents.
- There is a waitlist for parking permits which is open to both residents and non-residents.
- It is usually easy to park for the day at The Waterfront parking lot even without parking permits. This is a great choice for Rye Brook residents.
- White Plains Metro-North Train station parking
- The parking lot at the White Plains train station is only open to White Plains residents so that is not an option for Rye Brook residents.
- The Lexington-Grove East West Parking Garage (the lot at Galleria at White Plains mall) is located a few blocks from the train station and has some open spots. This lot is open to both residents and non-residents of White Plains. Please call 914-422-1391 for more information.

- There is a 10-17 year waitlist for Rye Parking Permits. That means, daily parking at the Rye train station is very competitive.
